Project Description

Aerotropolis Freight Cluster PlanAerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs), Aerotropolis Freight Cluster Plan, January 2019 – February 2020.

As part of a team, Modern Mobility Partners is assisting with identifying and evaluating freight challenges, needs, and opportunities within the AACIDs area, along with developing a fiscally constrained freight project list.  Modern Mobility Partners is leading:

  • Assistance with the delineation of Streetlight data zones to summarize observed data by extracting forecasted freight flows from the Atlanta Regional Commission’s activity-based model;
  • The identification of emerging technologies in freight and potential strategies, projects, and policies;
  • Updating the current AACIDs Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project prioritization framework previously developed by Modern Mobility Partners tailored towards bicycle and pedestrian projects and intersection improvements, to reflect freight criteria and metrics;
  • Calculating the return on investment (ROI) for each project and the program of projects as a whole;
  • Scoring, ranking, and prioritizing projects;
  • Identifying potential funding sources and fiscally constraining the project list; and
  • Developing a grant strategy; including conducting a robust benefit-cost analysis for the most competitive grant project.

As part of this effort, Modern Mobility Partners also led the emerging technologies component of a Best Practice Report.  This included, but was not limited to, research on freight technologies that are likely to or have already impacted the curb in urban settings.  Examples include parcel delivery drones, motorized electric tricycle delivery vehicles, autonomous (driverless) delivery vehicles and robots, curbside occupancy sensors related to parking or loading/unloading space availability.
